“Exchanges: Mendrisio Alumni in Japan”
Followed by a conversation with Yuma Shinohara
The Academy of Architecture presents a series of five public lectures by young architectural practices working in contemporary Japan. This cycle aims to introduce the audience to the ideas and projects of a generation addressing the new and complex challenges of modern Japan, including rapid demographic decline, the depopulation of rural areas, the increasing number of empty houses across the country, neoliberal urban development, a largely stagnant economy and of course, the global climate crisis.
The series of public events, MAKE DO WITH NOW, is the prelude to an exhibition on new trends in Japanese architecture that will open at the Teatro dell’Architettura in Mendrisio on April 10, 2025, in collaboration with SAM in Basel.
Free entrance subject to availability
The lecture is also streamed live on www.arc.usi.ch
